Iran Human Rights, February 1: According to several reports, a prisoner was executed in a prison in Ahwaz, on January 30.

The Italian news agency ADNkronos International reported that "Zamel Bavi, a prominent Iranian Arab separatist Zamel Bavi was hanged on Thursday in Ahwaz prison in the predominantly ethnic Arab province of Khuzestan on the Persian Gulf. The EP "expresses its deep concern over the deterioration of the human rights situation in Iran." It "strongly condemns the death sentences and executions in Iran, in particular those imposed and/or carried out on juvenile offenders and minors," and is "deeply concerned about the dramatic increase in the repression of civil-society movements." The House in particular "protests vehemently the execution of Zamal Bawi," who was executed just a few hours before the vote.

The official Iranian News Agencies have not reported the execution. The head of the Iranian judiciary, Ayatollah Shahrudi, banned the media from publishing pictures of the executions on January 29. Since then there have not been any media reports about the executions in Iran.
