Central Iran: Prisoner Executed in Public

A prisoner with armed robbery and rape charges was hanged in public in central Iran on Tuesday August 9.
Iran Human Rights (AUG 10 2016): A prisoner, identified as M.R., was reportedly hanged in public in the city of Saveh on armed robbery and rape charges. According to Iranian state run news outlet, ISNA, quoting the press department of the Judiciary in Saveh (Markazi province, central Iran), the execution was carried out early morning on Tuesday August 9 in front of a crowd of people.

Six women were among those executed, the highest monthly total recorded in 2026. Only 10 of the 82 August executions were officially announced. IHRNGO recorded at least 532 executions in Iran between 1 January and 31 August 2026.
