Iran: Prisoner Executed in Public

Iran Human Rights (DEC 22 2016): A prisoner was executed in public in the city of Ilam (northwestern Iran) on rape charges.
According to the state-run news agency ISNA, the execution was carried out on the morning of Thursday December 22.

Abbas Mardani, 30, and Mansour Rahiminejad, 38 and a father of one, were executed in Qom Central Prison on 31 August. Both were sentenced to death on drug-related charges.

Six women were among those executed, the highest monthly total recorded in 2026. Only 10 of the 82 August executions were officially announced. IHRNGO recorded at least 532 executions in Iran between 1 January and 31 August 2026.
