Iran Executions: Four Prisoners Hanged in Shiraz

Iran Human Rights (IHR); April 28, 2019: Four prisoners were executed on Thursday, April 25, at Shiraz Central Prison, also known as Adel-Abad Prison. Two of the four were sentenced to death for murder charges and two for rape charges.

According to IHR sources, on the morning of Thursday, April 25, four prisoners were executed at Shiraz Central Prison.

Iranian Rokna website, two of them, identified by their first names Habib and Kaveh, were sentenced to death for “rape and robbery.” Rokna reported the executions’ date as April 28 in the title of the news piece. However, IHR sources emphasised that the executions verdicts were carried out on Thursday, April 25.

IHR could identify the full name of two other prisoners as Dorhan Heidari and Mirhan Hazru Shah-Ghassemi. Both of them were executed for murder charges. The two were transferred from Isfahan prison to Shiraz prison on April 7, 2019.

Most of the executions in Iran are not announced officially. According to IHR’s Annual Report on the Death Penalty in Iran, 66% of the executions in 2018 were not announced.

UPDATE, April 30:

Two prisoners who were executed for rape charges were juvenile offenders. They were 15 at the time of their arrest.
