Iran: Four People Sentenced to Death for Killing a Man

Iran Human Rights (IHR); May 31, 2019: Four prisoners have been sentenced to death for murdering a man.

According to IHR sources, a court in the Iranian city of Maragheh sentenced four men to qisas (retribution in kind) for murdering a man. The incident happened two years ago when Jalal Partowi, Sasan Zahrabi, Mohammadali Naghipour and Saeed (?) went to take back an amount of money given by Jalal to a man as a loan. The four beat him and the victim died.

Due to the lack of transparency in the Iranian judicial system, there is no other information about their case and the process of their trial.

There is a lack of a classification of murder by degree in Iran which results in issuing a death sentence for any kind of murder regardless of intensity and intent.

According to the Iran Human Rights statistic department, at least 273 people were executed in Iran in 2018. At least 188 of them executed for murder charges.
