Iran: Man Hanged at Mashhad Prison

Iran Human Rights (IHR); January 18, 2020: A man was hanged at Mashhad prison on January 12, 2020, for murder charges.

According to an Iranian website, Rokna, a man was hanged on January 12, 2020, at Mashhad city’s prison, also known as Vakilabad prison. His identity is revealed as Omid D, 22.

Omid was sentenced to death for murdering a man around five years ago in a conspiracy with the man’s wife. The co-defendant’s destiny is not mentioned in the Rokna report.

In 2019, most of the executions in Iran were carried out for murder charges.

There is a lack of a classification of murder by degree in Iran which results in issuing a death sentence for any kind of murder regardless of intensity and intent.
