Ahmad Asgarat Executed with Mohammad Ghobadlu and Farhad Salimi

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); January 24, 2024: Ahmad Asgarat, a man on death row for murder, was executed with political prisoners Mohammad Ghobadlu and Farhad Salimi in Ghezelhesar Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, another man was executed in Ghezelhesar Prison in Karaj on 23 January. His identity has been established as Ahmad Asgarat who was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Mohammad Asgarat was accused of helping a woman he was with to kill her husband.”

The executions of political prisoners Farhad Salimi and Mohammad Ghobadlu were previously reported at the prison that day.

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, as the plaintiffs, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
