THREE YOUNG MEN WERE HANGED IN PUBLIC IN SHIRAZ TODAY

Iran Human Rights, April 16: Three young men were hanged in public the Iranian city of Shiraz, reported the official Iranian news agency IRNA.

According to the report the men identified as "Abolfazl Faraei" (28), "Reza Roshanfekr" (27) and "Seyed Rokneddin Karimi" (28) were convicted of killing security officers two years ago. They were also convicted of kidnapping and armed robbery said the report.

The charges have not been confirmed by independent sources.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of IHR, condemned today’s hangings and said: "Public hanging is a barbaric act that should not be tolerated by the world community in 2011".

He added: "Public hanging is also an offence against the society and is solely meant to spread fear in the society"
