Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); 1 July 2026: Seven unidentified men were executed in Shiraz Central Prison in a group hanging in May. Another man named Rasoul Rasouli was executed at the prison this morning.
According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was hanged in Shiraz (Adel Abad) Prison on 1st July 2026. His identity has been established as Rasoul Rasouli (photo) from the village of Amir Hajilu in Fasa. He was sentenced to death on drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court.
An informed source told IHRNGO: “Rasoul had previously served a prison sentence on drug-related charges in Khorramabad Central Prison in 2018 and was released after several years. However, he was re-arrested in 2023 on charges of possessing 40 kilograms of methamphetamine (shisheh) and was subsequently sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court. Rasoul served as the prisoner representative (vakilband) of Ward 11 at Shiraz Prison.”
Furthermore, seven men were hanged at the prison on 31 May. The unidentified men were all on death row for drug-related offences and had been transferred to Shiraz Central Prison from Pirbanu Prison for execution.
At the time of writing, their executions have not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
Drug-related executions have continuously risen every year since 2021. According to IHRNGO’s 2025 Annual Report on the Death Penalty, at least 795 people were executed for drug-related charges, of which only 0.18% were announced by official sources. 13% of all drug-related executions in 2025 were Baluch minorities while they represent 2-6% of Iran’s population.
In December 2025, IHRNGO published a report titled “A Village of Graves: Widespread and Systematic Drug Executions in Iran,” which provides an overview of drug laws and documents the systematic violation of due process and fair trial rights in drug cases.
