Shahin Basami was the breadwinner of his family in a village near Kazeroun. In the summer of 2024, he was arrested a fortnight after returning from a 3-month work trip to Soleimanieh (Iraq), where he worked as a welder. According to former cellmates, Shahin denied the charges and said he was innocent. He was denied access to a lawyer of his choice and at trial, Shahin’s court-appointed lawyer threatened him with execution “if he did not tell the truth.” It is not clear where Shahin is currently held.

CHARGES: Espionage for Israel.

STATUS: Sentenced to death by the Shiraz Revolutionary Court in April 2025. His case is currently pending at the Supreme Court.
